So as you guys know I typically weigh in on Wednesdays…but I’m seriously starting to wonder if Wednesday is a bad day for me?  I weighed in Wednesday and I was down 0.8lbs and 1.5 inches…I’ve been having a pretty good last couple of days diet and exercise wise so out of curiosity I decided to weigh in this morning.  O….M….G!!!

As of this morning I weighed in at 200lbs exactly.  I was 202.4 on Wednesday, so that means I’ve lost a total of 3.2lbs this week!  I also decided to redo my measurements and I lost another 2 inches off my waist and another 1.5 inches off my bust!

What a great way to start my day!!!!

I seriously think that logging everything I put in my mouth on My Fitness Pal is helping.  It’s also giving me a visual tracker for my water.

I am seriously just 1 pound away from ONEDERLAND!!! Which puts me just 55lbs away from my goal of 145lbs!  That means that I’m already a third of the way through my weight loss journey 🙂

Most importantly I FEEL the difference, I wake up more energetic, I don’t feel lethargic throughout the day, I don’t get bloated anymore (other than when it’s that TOM) I feel healthier.  I went out to dinner with friends last night and I can be a hundred percent honest when I say that the heavily breaded, fried items that I used to love didn’t even get a glance from me 🙂

This is definitely a lifestyle change and not a “diet,” remember diet is a four letter word 🙂

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

The Challenge

21 04 2010

Hi and welcome to my blog 🙂

My name is Sara and I am using this blog as a tool to document my 365 day health challenge.  Who am I?  Well I’m a 27 year old college student/retail employee living in a northern suburb of Chicago.  Life has been full of ups and downs, most recently I had to have spinal fusion surgery for my L4-L5, and while I start physical therapy next week I wanted to take things one step further and make more lifestyle changes to improve my overall health.  I’ve had back problems for the last six years, I’ve had physical therapy before, tried epidural cortisone injections and pretty much all the pain killer prescriptions my doctor could think of.  I had back surgery before too, July of last year (yes I’ve had spinal surgery twice in less than a year, its no fun) and it worked for about six months, but it started acting up again in December and I’ve been out of commission ever since…

With all the free time I’ve had I’ve developed quite a passion for searching out healthy recipes (I’ve always loved to cook) and looking for ways to improve my overall health.  The biggest obstacle I’m going to have to overcome is that my fusion surgery has severely limited my range of motion (I can’t even bend at the waist) and my doctor doesn’t want me doing any “twisting” motions for quite awhile (which made me sad as I used to be quite an avid golfer).

Another obstacle to overcome is my PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), which is responsible for 10-20% of weight problems in younger women.  It makes it difficult to lose weight (it has something to do with how my body processes carbohydrates and sugars) so my doctor has recommended a glycemic index diet (low carb, low sugar) as well as birth control to correct this problem.

But I’m not going to let either of these obstacles get in my way anymore.  I’m taking a stand starting now and committing to eating healthier, being more active and living a happy and healthier life.

I’m not going to set an end goal, not yet anyways.  Instead I’m going to set smaller, short-term goals and celebrate those, and when this challenge comes to an end we’ll see where we are.

Well, just like on Biggest Loser its time to start off with the embarrassment of a public weigh-in:

Starting Stats:  4/21/2010

Height:  5ft 6.5in

Weight:  206.2lbs

BMI:  33

I cannot wait to be under 200lbs! That’s my first short term goal 🙂
